Welcome to the APLI website!
Atmospheric pressure laser ionization (APLI) is one of the youngest techniques among the variety of ionization methods operating at ambient pressure within the ion-source region.
APLI is an evolving technique; this website is intended to provide a most up-to date source of information for users of the method and interested visitors. Information is given on the principles of operation of APLI but also selected applications are presented, in particular with respect to the application of APLI in the actual research and the hyphenation of APLI with chromatographic and electrophoretic separation stages for applications in chemical analysis.
APLI is currently developed as a joint research effort of the Analytical and Physical / Theoretical Chemistry groups at the University of Wuppertal, Germany.
Our primary goals are:
- Provide an alternative or complementary AP ionization method to the established techniques APCI and APPI.
- Investigate the ionization mechanisms including secondary reactions following the primary ionizations step.
- Use the particular characteristics of APLI for applications in chemical analytics and actual mass-spectrometry method development.
- Hyphenate APLI MS with diverse chromatographic and electrophoretic pre-separation stages.
