Welcome to the APLI website!
Atmospheric pressure laser ionization (APLI) is the youngest technique among the variety of ionization methods operating at ambient pressure within the ion-source region.
APLI is an evolving technique; this website is intended to provide a most up-to date source of information for users and interested visitors. Information is given on the principles of operation of APLI. In addition, some interesting mechanistic aspects regarding the ionization and sampling process of ions at AP are highlighted. Finally, selected applications are presented, in particular with respect to the hyphenation of APLI with chromatographic and electrophoretic separation stages.
APLI is currently developed as a major joint research effort of the Analytical and Physical Chemistry groups at the University of Wuppertal, Germany. Our primary goals are:
- Provide an alternative or complementary AP ionization method to the established techniques APCI and APPI.
- Investigate the ionization mechanisms including secondary reactions following the primary ionizations step.
- Hyphenate APLI MS with diverse chromatographic and electrophoretic pre-separation stages.
